Vacant Board of Commissioners of the Port District Position

The Port of Ridgefield currently has a vacancy on its Board of Commissioners of the Port District (position #2). The current Port Commissioners will be selecting a candidate who will be appointed to serve until the next general election in November of 2009. In November of 2009 voters will then elect a Port Commissioner to serve the remainder of the term, which expires in 2013.
Four candidates have submitted their names to be considered for appointment to this position; they are Gary Adkins, John Dingethal, Scott Hughes, and Pat Jeffries. The public is invited to participate in the selection process by attending the Port public meeting on December 3rd where they meet the candidates, make public comments and ask questions. Interested persons may also submit written comments in advance by mail to the Port of Ridgefield, PO Box 55, Ridgefield, WA or by email to info@portridgefield.org.
The Board of Commissioners may appoint a candidate to fill the position at the December 3rd, 2008 port meeting, or they may opt to not make a selection at that time. The port is required by law to fill the vacant position no later than January 20th, 2009.

The Port of Ridgefield was formed in 1940 and is charged with bringing economic development to the greater Ridgefield area. The Port district covers approximately 57 square miles, represents over 10,000 constituents and is led by three elected commissioners: Joe Melroy, Roy Randel, and Bruce Wiseman. Its current major projects include facilitating the community discussion regarding development of the Discovery Corridor, the PWT Environmental Cleanup and the installation of a number of transportation related projects.
