Port Commission and Staff

Port of Ridgefield Commissioners: From Left to right Bruce Wiseman, Joe Melroy and Roy Randel.

The three-member Port of Ridgefield Commission is the governing body of the Port of Ridgefield. The Commission sets policy, authorizes major expenditures and appoints an Executive Director who is responsible for the executive leadership and day-to-day operations of the Port. Commissioners are elected by voters in the three Port of Ridgefield Districts to six-year terms.

Commissioner R. Bruce Wiseman

Mr. Wiseman was first appointed to the Port Commission in October of 1999 and then went on to serve a full elected six-year term in November of 1999. Commissioner Wiseman has owned and operated "The Tree Wisemans" - a Ridgefield Christmas tree farm, for 20 years. After 30 years of service, Wiseman retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service where he served as Project Leader for the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. Mr. Wiseman has been very involved in numerous Ridgefield School District committees and other civic groups including Little League, Ridgefield 4th of July Committee, Ridgefield Lions, Boosters Clubs, Chamber of Commerce and the Vancouver Lake Watershed Partnership. His special interest is environmental matters, specifically the Port's ongoing PWT Envirnonmental Cleanup of the Lake River Industrial Site. He is a graduate of Washington State University-Pullman. Commissioner Wiseman represents Port District #1.

Commissioner D. Joe Melroy

Mr. Melroy was elected to the Port Commission in 1998. A small business owner for 25 years, he was the owner/operator of On Site Roll Forming in Ridgefield, Washington. Mr. Melroy is also a member of Operating Engineers Local 701. His many civic activities include service on the Boosters Club, 4th of July Committee and Little League. He is a past member of the Ridgefield Planning Commission. He is a current member and past Chair of the Ridgefield Lions Club. He has been a community activist for more than 30 years and remains very involved with Growth Management Act planning. He attended San Diego State University. Commissioner Melroy represents Port District #3.

Commissioner R. Roy Randel

Mr. Randel has been a Port of Ridgefield Commissioner for more than 20 years and has been a resident of Ridgefield for 30 years. He takes special interest in economic development and has served on a variety of committees to support the area's economic development. Mr. Randel has been a strong advocate and coach for Little League Baseball. He is a retired insurance broker formerly with W.R. Reed & Company in Portland, Oregon and is a graduate of Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington. Commissioner Randel represents Port District #2.

 

Brent Grening, Executive Director

Since March of 1998, Mr. Grening has been the Executive Director of the Port of Ridgefield overseeing all of the day-to-day operations and planning at the Port. Grening has over 14 years of experience in economic development having served as Executive Director of Tri-County Economic Development District in northeast Washington State and as Manager of Business Development for the Snohomish County Economic Development Council in Snohomish County, Washington. Mr. Grening is a past chairman and treasurer of the Washington State Association of Economic Development Councils. He currently serves on the Board of Directors at the Columbia River Economic Development Committee, the Public Affairs Committee at the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce, the City of Ridgefield's Design Committee and is actively involved in the Washington Public Ports Association. Grening is a third generation Washingtonian originally from the Seattle area. He is a graduate of the University of Washington with a Bachelors and Masters degree in Urban Planning.
